Performing VISMS
Mandala by Steve Barnard
1. This workshop presents a dynamic process for generating performance lectures as a bricolage integrating activism, artivism and performance.
2. Performing VISMS (PV) is similar in style and format to TED Talks and designed to explore the complex relationship between theatre and media in the American academy and offer possible strategies and techniques for theatre educators and performance practitioners alike to creatively engage students (and audiences) in today’s media/new media culture and economy.
3. Performance techniques are intended to artfully include theatre, media, music, dance, visual arts, in order to communicate educational materials within learning environments by incorporating activism and performance as an educational norm.
4. The goal is to present relevant intellectual material in a performance format that is holistic, dynamic, engaging, entertaining, surprising, and multi-dimensional.
5. Performing VISMS is intended to demonstrate the efficacy of artistic training through theatre as a holistic training platform in the schools, especially where the arts have become absent (or defunded) expressions of civilized humanity and may serve as a viable alternative capable of filling in the gaps of training not currently offered in educational curriculums.
